The Line

River country, totem country, glacier country.

Prince George, Burns Lake, Hazelton, Kitimat. Ten days west along the Skeena watershed where the rivers get bigger, the totem poles older, and the mountains steeper the closer you get to salt water. The north's great introduction: remote enough to mean it, serviced enough to relax.

Day by day

THE FULL LINE · 10 DAYS

Every day is a card: where you wake up, what the road does, where you sleep.

DAY 01River country

The Skeena sets the pace: big water, bigger valley walls. First camp within sound of the river.

DAY 02The Hazeltons

Totem country: Ksan and the standing poles of Gitanyow and Kispiox, presented properly, walked respectfully. Camp on the Kispiox with steelhead water at your feet.

DAY 03Up the Kispiox valley

A soft day up a green valley of farms and river bends, then gravel past the last fence line.

DAY 04The Babine reach

East into lake country the size of weather systems. Camp on a gravel point with fifty kilometres of water to yourself.

DAY 05Smithers day

Resupply, bakery, and the Hudson Bay Mountain views. Back out to a creek camp before the town closes.

DAY 06The Telkwa high road

The old pass road behind the range: alpine flowers, mine relics, and one honest climb.

DAY 07Lakes district drift

A chain of camps and swims through Burns Lake country, choosing the emptiest option nightly.

DAY 08Back to the big river

Rejoin the Skeena where it braids wide and silver. Eagles keep the score.

DAY 09The canyon

Where the whole river narrows to a roar. Photos from the safe side, dinner above the noise.

DAY 10The slow goodbye

Terrace walkthrough, salmon in the cooler if the season allows, and the north firmly under your skin.
