Halfway, St. Leon, Ainsworth, soak, drive, repeat.

The Kootenays' worst-kept secret, run properly: Halfway River, St. Leon, Ainsworth, and all the way down to Whiteswan and Lussier. Seven days where the day's big decision is which hot water to finish in. Between soaks, some of the prettiest lake-and-range driving in the province.

Day by day

THE FULL LINE · 7 DAYS

Every day is a card: where you wake up, what the road does, where you sleep.

DAY 01Drive a little, soak a lot

An easy line into the Kootenays with a soak before dinner on day one. This trip announces its rhythm early.

DAY 02Halcyon to Halfway

North along the Arrow Lakes to the Halfway River springs: wild, riverside, and exactly hot enough. Camp within robe distance.

DAY 03Nakusp day

Town coffee, a bakery raid, and the developed springs if you want your soak with a ladder. Camp back out on the lake where it is quiet.

DAY 04The St. Leon morning

The famous forest pools before anyone else is awake. Steam in the cedars, then a slow gravel afternoon down the lake.

DAY 05Over to Kootenay Lake

The pass over to Kaslo, ice cream mandatory, then south along the big lake to a beach camp with mountains stacked on the far shore.

DAY 06Ainsworth and the caves

The horseshoe caves at Ainsworth, the view across the lake, and one last wild soak that we will point you to quietly.

DAY 07The slow goodbye

The ferry across the lake, a last soak-warm morning, and the walkthrough. You leave more relaxed than any road trip has a right to deliver.
