Managing Your Water for a Week Off-Grid
Water is the real currency off-grid. Fuel gets you there, but water decides how long you stay. After a million kilometres, here's how we actually manage it.
Know your split
Drinking and cooking is a small fraction of use. Showers and dishes are the spenders. The trucks carry enough fresh water for many days of normal living, triple filtered, and the trick is simply knowing which category you're spending from.
The habits that stretch it
Navy showers are the famous one, but dish technique matters more: wipe first, one wash basin, quick rinse. Campfire-heated rinse water on a long stay is free capacity. And filling opportunities are everywhere in BC if you know what a good source looks like, which we cover in orientation along with the filter system that stands between you and regret.
Grey water is part of the deal
What goes down the drain rides with you until you offboard it properly. Plan your grey capacity like you plan fresh, dump at proper facilities, and the backcountry stays the way you found it. Tread Lightly isn't a slogan on this fleet, it's a checklist item at your return walkthrough.
The honest answer
Most guests never think about water at all until day five, then they check the gauge, find it healthier than expected, and go back to their book. That's the system working.
